What is The 500, Inc.?
For almost five decades, The 500, Inc. has been providing financial, volunteer, and training support for the Dallas County arts community. Founded in 1965 by Polly Lou Moore, the organization began when a group of 500 individuals pledged $10 each to raise money for the Dallas Civic Opera. The 500, Inc. accomplished its initial goal of raising $5000 in just three months. The 500, Inc.'s mission has grown to support the visual, theatrical and musical arts of Dallas. The organization has donated over $12,000,000.00 and countless volunteer hours in support of over forty different arts organizations.
Through all of these opportunities 500, Inc. members become involved in the vast arts community of Dallas while making lasting friendships and learning new skills which run the gamut from business and financial sense to painting letters for the kids’ area to hospitality for artists to setting up tables and decorating for events. Many of our members have become leaders and directors of other arts organizations and corporate businesses.
The 500, Inc. raises funds by producing several events throughout the year. These events are described on our Events page. At the heart of The 500, Inc. are all our members and volunteers that are involved in producing these events.
